Characteristics of successful people

Hi everyone,
I’m hoping that all went well while I was away for the last two days and you got to see the Teenage Brain video. We’ll discuss the video when I come back on Monday.

Today and tomorrow I want you to focus on two of the characteristics of successful people by doing the following.

Research the following aspects of the characteristics of perseverance and goal setting. For each characteristic you’ll need to find

a definition of the characteristic and examples of it
a picture that illustrates it
3 quotes about
5 questions that we can ask about it (think in terms of the 5 w’s)
Answers to the questions that you asked about it

A reflection paragraph of 8 sentences about how you display this characteristic in you life. Make sure you type it and check it for mistakes. Ask someone to look it over to catch those mistakes you don’t see.

Use the information to create a poster for each characteristic. So I’m expecting two posters and two reflection paragraphs for Monday.

Check with Shawn because he’s already started this assignment and can show you what he has done so far.

You don’t necessarily have to do it the way Shawn has. His work is a good example to get you thinking.

If Shawn isn’t there use your imagination. As senior students you’ve done tons of assignments. There should be no problems. I’m looking forward to seeing what you come up with. I’ve noticed that you are a very creative group of students.

I expect you to have this done for Monday. See you then.

Using the Classroom Blog

Since last year, Ive been using the class blog to write out and work on in-class assignments. I enjoy and find it better to write all my work in the Classroom Blog other than writing all assignments out. I feel that while using the blog, it helps you organize words and thoughts better. It works better to get assignments done faster and looks more professional when typed out. It helps structure the format of writing style. I enjoy using this and I find that its a great way to get work done more efficiently. - Tagan

Are you left a left-brain or right-brain learner?

1. How is a brain like a computer? That’s the question I want you to think about right now and discuss with your partner. Then I’ll ask you to share your ideas with the class.

2. Are you a left-brain or right brain learner?  Maybe that’s a no-brainer :) question for you. But if you’re not sure what that means today you’re going to do some research to find out.

First let’s review the functions of the central nervous system so that we can determine whether we are left-brained or right brained.

You and your partner create a mind map of the functions of the brain.  Use Smart Ideas.
